Angel Food Cakes with Strawberries

Nothing screams summer more than Strawberry season.  These Strawberries on a Cloud desserts are the perfect summer treat for the family.

These little dreams are quick to make and taste oh so good!

Strawberry Angel Food Cupcakes

I made them in cupcakes and small cakes to show the different possibilities.  I know not everyone has the small loaf pans but I have to say, they were way better.  If you make the cupcakes, I would cut them in half and add the whip in the middle and cut the strawberries up like the cakes.

Either way, you can’t go wrong with the strawberries on a cloud.

Let’s jump into the recipe.

You can make homemade angel food cake but I used a box angel food cake for this recipe.

Angel Food Cake

I did make homemade whipped cream.  It’s so easy and tastes so much better.  Of course, if you want to save time, cool whip will work perfect.  Beat it until stiff peaks form (like shown).

Homemade Whipped Cream

I wanted to show a great way to pipe frosting or whipped cream using Ziploc baggies.  Just place the frosting or cream in a baggie, cut the tip, and pipe!

Pipe the whipped cream onto the cupcakes or small cakes.  Top with strawberries (whole, pieces, or slices)

Ingredients

  • 1 box angel food cake
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar or more if desired
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 lb strawberries

Instructions

  1. Prepare angel food cake according to boxed instructions.  You can make one big cake, cupcakes, or small cakes.  (Cupcakes or small cakes will take less baking time.)

  2. While the cake is baking, place your heavy whipping cream in the bowl of a stand mixer or large bowl and use a hand mixer.  Whip continuously on medium speed for 3 minutes.  Add sugar and vanilla.  Whip until soft peaks form.  At this point, I like to taste to make sure that I am happy with the amount of sugar.  Add more if desired.  Continue to whip until stiff peaks form and then cover and refrigerate.

  3. Once the angel food cake is cooled, pipe the whipped topping on each cake.

  4. Finish off by topping with whole strawberries, pieces, or slices.  Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until serving.
