Hamburger patty with two types of cheese smothered in sauce and served on toasted bread.
Pat the ground beef out into 4 hamburger patties. (You can also make 8 thinner patties and put two on each sandwich.)
Fry hamburgers in a skillet or cook them on a grill until no longer pink.
While the hamburgers are cooking, butter one side of 8 pieces of bread. Heat a skillet to medium-high heat. Place the bread, butter side down, in the skillet. Put a piece of American cheese on 4 of the slices and a piece of swiss cheese on the remaining 4 slices. Cook the bread until it is toasted on the buttered side and the cheese is melted. Watch carefully so the bread doesn't burn. Should only take a couple of minutes or less.
If using western dressing, combine with the thousand island. Smear approximately 1 tablespoon of dressing onto each piece of bread (on the cheese side).
Layer a hamburger patty on 4 of the pieces of bread. Top the sandwiches with the other 4 pieces of bread.
Serve immediately after assembling.
