Nothing says fall comfort food like fried biscuits and apple butter.   These are done in under 20 minutes… no dough-making required!

The first time I had fried biscuits and apple butter was at a restaurant called The Nashville House in Brown County (Nashville, Indiana).

If you are ever near the area, this little country town is full of neat craft, specialty, and antique shops.  There are also plenty of restaurants, bakeries, and activities.

You can stop and get a custom leather piece, pick out a delicious piece of fudge, find a one of a kind gift, and enjoy a homecooked meal.

It’s a great getaway for your family or even better for a girl’s trip.  Cabins are available for rent or you can find other lodging around the town.

The day I had these amazing fried biscuits and apple butter, I was there with a group of girls from church.  That was several years ago but I still remember those biscuits.

I’ve always wanted to try to make them at home but I didn’t want to make homemade dough, cut the biscuits out, etc.

Then I thought back to my Girl Scout days where we made doughnuts out of canned biscuit dough and I thought I could probably do the same for the fried biscuits.

(If you’ve never made doughnuts with the canned biscuits, it is such an easy way to make them.  Follow the same recipe here but cut a small hole in the middle before frying to make a doughnut.  I use a bottle cap to cut the hole.  Toss in cinnamon/sugar, powdered sugar, or dip them in glaze.)

It worked perfect.  You just need a can of biscuit dough and oil for frying.  That’s it!!!

I bought apple butter from the store to make this a super quick and easy recipe that anyone can whip up.

My favorite is still biscuits and gravy but these are a very close second.

What’s one food that you remember eating at a restaurant that you’d love to be able to recreate at home?

Total Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 can regular biscuits (I didn't use the ones with layers)
  • vegetable or canola oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a small to medium frying pan (you can also use a deep fryer or dutch oven), heat the oil on medium heat.

  2. Once the oil is fully heated, carefully place 2-3 biscuits in the oil.  Fry for 3 minutes on one side.  Flip and cook another 3 minutes on the other side.

  3. Place the fried biscuits on a paper towel to absorb any grease.  Continue with the other biscuits until all are fried.

  4. Serve warm with apple butter.

Recipe Notes

  • Since temperatures can vary, check to make sure your biscuits are not burning during your first batch.  If they are, turn the heat down.
  • After the first batch is fried, check one to make sure they are cooked all the way through.  If not, place them back in the grease for another minute and adjust cooking time for the remaining biscuits.
  • Some like to toss the fried biscuits in cinnamon and sugar before serving.
