Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Texas toast any thick cut bread is best
  • 4 ea eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Cut each piece of bread into "sticks" by making 3 equal, vertical cuts. They should be about 1" wide. Set aside.

  3. In a small bowl, combine the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon. Whisk until combined.

  4. Spray a large baking sheet (or 2 smaller) with cooking spray. Place the cut bread, wet ingredients in bowl, and baking sheet all close to each other.

  5. Coat each stick of bread into the wet ingredients, allow excess to drip, and place on baking sheet. Repeat until all sticks are coated completely.

  6. Bake for 25 minutes, flipping each stick around the half way point to get both sides browned. French toast sticks will be soft but not mushy. If they are not firmed up, put them in the oven for a few more minutes.

  7. Let cool on baking sheet. You can eat these immediately or freeze. If freezing, once cooled completely, put the tray as is in the freezer. This is to start the freezing process of the french toast sticks so they won't clump together later. After 1.5 hours, take the sticks off the baking sheet, put them in a freezer bag or container, and place back in the freezer. To reheat, microwave for 1.5 minutes until warmed through. Serve with syrup.
