A sweet banana dessert. Serve with ice cream to make it extra delicious.
It has been super cold and snowy here lately so I wanted to share an easy dessert recipe to hopefully warm everyone up. Banana desserts are always some of my favorites.
A couple of years ago I posted a recipe for Banana Wontons. I realized that wonton wrappers are sometimes hard to find. Also, most people don’t have them just laying around for a last-minute dessert. I wanted an easier way to make them.
At a Mexican buffet, I saw that they wrapped whole bananas in tortillas, fried them, and sprinkled them with cinnamon and sugar. That gave me the idea for these banana dessert tacos.
I found small tortilla shells at the store that are for street tacos. I used the same ingredients and recipe as the wontons but you don’t need water to seal the tortillas. If you can’t find street taco tortillas or don’t have them at home, any tortilla size will work. The smaller ones just work better.
I topped mine with caramel sauce but you could use any toppings you want. Some fun topping ideas are:
- Chocolate Syrup
- Nuts
- Marshmallow and Chocolate
- Strawberry Sauce
- Sprinkles
- Whipped Cream
- More Bananas
- Caramel Sauce
- Cherries
You can also do the original idea that I saw where the restaurant used a whole banana. Wrap it in a tortilla like a chimichanga (fold each end up and then roll it up the rest of the way in the tortilla).
Find the recipe for Banana Wontons here and just change the wonton wrappers to tortillas. I also would try to press the edges of the tortilla instead of sealing them with water like the wontons.
