This Bagel BLT Sandwich has all the flavor! Kinda sweet and spicy. Kinda delicious. Most people don’t need a recipe to make a classic BLT but here’s how to make the ultimate BLT.

How can you make a BLT sandwich more delicious than it already is? It comes down to flavoring the bacon and picking tasty bread. Combine those with crispy lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and a creamy mayo-based dressing and you have the ultimate sandwich.

The guys fought over the leftovers to make the last sandwich so I recommend making enough for seconds.

Bagel BLT Sandwich Ingredients

Bagels

Flavored bagels are key here. For example, we went with an onion bagel but you could use everything, berry, garlic, etc.

Tip: Toast your bagel for some added crunch and keeps the bread from getting soggy.

Bacon

Thick-cut bacon is perfect for this sandwich but any bacon will do.

Lettuce

Iceberg is a great choice for this sandwich.

Tip: Keep the lettuce in large pieces so small pieces don’t fall out of the sandwich when you take a bite.

Tomatoes

Look for a medium-sized, red, juicy tomato

Mayonnaise

We went with the classic mayo.

Tip: Jazz it up with an aioli, homemade mayonnaise, or other dressing.

Spices

Black pepper, brown sugar, cayenne, and chili powder.

How to Make the Sweet and Spicy Bacon

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and lay the bacon out in a single layer. The bacon slices can be touching but don’t overlap.

In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of brown sugar with 1 tablespoon each of chili powder, cayenne pepper, and black pepper. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the bacon slices.

Next, place the cookie sheet in the oven for 20 minutes and then switch to broil and leave in for 3 minutes. This makes the bacon crispier and more candied. Remove from the oven and immediately place the bacon pieces on a paper towel to absorb moisture.

What to Serve with Bagel BLT Sandwiches

We served ours with the new Kettle brand air-fried potato chips. Other options would be potato salad, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, french fries, or any other sandwich accompaniments.

  6. After the bacon is done broiling, immediately remove from the oven and put the slices on a paper towel to absorb grease and moisture. Once cooled, cut the bacon in half to fit on the bagel.

  7. To assemble the sandwich: lay the bottom bagel down, put 4 half pieces of bacon on the bagel, layer with a piece of the lettuce, a slice or two of tomato, then spread a layer of mayo on the top bun, and finish with the top bun being placed on the rest of the sandwich.

Recipe Notes

  1. Leave out the cayenne if you do not like spice.
  2. Use any flavored bagel that you like.  We chose onion bagels but you could use everything, berry, garlic, etc.
  3. If you like crispier bacon, use a rack on the cookie sheet to keep the bacon up out of the grease.  You might not need to broil at the end if you choose this method.
